Gleanings: Stories from the Arc of a Scythe is book number 3。5 in the Arc of a Scythe series。 It is a collection of short stories written by Neal Shusterman and other authors。 It is such a cool concept and perfect for all fans of the series。 I loved this book and I am personally hoping for another edition。 Gleanings is a collection of 13 stories set in the Scythedom。 Some of the stories are prequels to the original trilogy, some take place throughout and some are sequels。 We get to see old chara Gleanings: Stories from the Arc of a Scythe is book number 3。5 in the Arc of a Scythe series。 It is a collection of short stories written by Neal Shusterman and other authors。 It is such a cool concept and perfect for all fans of the series。 I loved this book and I am personally hoping for another edition。 Gleanings is a collection of 13 stories set in the Scythedom。 Some of the stories are prequels to the original trilogy, some take place throughout and some are sequels。 We get to see old characters and meet new ones and the stories all have different tones。 I flipping loved this idea and it felt super unique to me and a perfect companion to series that feature beloved worlds。 I would personally love to see more series do something like this because it really helps fans of the series get a better idea of the world and its' inner workings。 Some of the stories were really dark, which I felt was important because some aspects of the Scythedom are pretty dark。 I was happy that this book went there with some of its' tales。 I particularly loved some of the origin stories featuring some really beloved and really hated scythes。 It was super neat to see how they became who they were in the original trilogy。 But then again, the new little stories that were scattered throughout the original timeline were also really interesting。 I felt like I was on an easter egg hunt ;learning new little nuggets about the series, world and characters along the way。 If you are a fan of the Arc of a Scythe series, I highly recommend Gleanings。 I loved this concept and this collection of stories。 。。。more

OH man I loved all of the Scythe trilogy but I'd forgotten a lot of the details of this, so I think some of these stories didn't quite hit the way they would have if I'd read them freshly after The Toll。 I mean most of them aren't set post-Toll, but just to have the world-building fresh in my memory。 But, regardless, I still really liked this anthology overall。 I think my favorite was "The Mortal Canvas," which I think really gets to the heart of what this series' views on what mortality brings OH man I loved all of the Scythe trilogy but I'd forgotten a lot of the details of this, so I think some of these stories didn't quite hit the way they would have if I'd read them freshly after The Toll。 I mean most of them aren't set post-Toll, but just to have the world-building fresh in my memory。 But, regardless, I still really liked this anthology overall。 I think my favorite was "The Mortal Canvas," which I think really gets to the heart of what this series' views on what mortality brings to art。 Also when Shusterman first announced this collection he was like, "people keep asking me about if pets get gleaned so I have a story about that," and so if you were wondering about that, (view spoiler)[pets can't be gleaned by scythes but they can die。 But then they can be revived, but every time you revive them the cost doubles so eventually it gets to be cost-prohibitive。 (hide spoiler)] Also there is a story in here about a Scythe and his dog that is like pretty fucked up。 Anyway, if you're a fan of the Scythe books I'd def recommend this。 If you're not a fan of the Scythe books, I'd recommend that you become one。 。。。more

I won this book in a Goodreads book giveaway。 I have to admit, I was a little disappointed with Book 3 in the Scythe series so I wasn't sure what to expect of this one when I received it。 This book is a stand alone book comprised of short stories of many of the scythes that we met along the way。 I was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed these stories as much as I did。 Definitely worth reading if you enjoyed the Scythe series。 I won this book in a Goodreads book giveaway。 I have to admit, I was a little disappointed with Book 3 in the Scythe series so I wasn't sure what to expect of this one when I received it。 This book is a stand alone book comprised of short stories of many of the scythes that we met along the way。 I was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed these stories as much as I did。 Definitely worth reading if you enjoyed the Scythe series。 。。。more

Thank you SO MUCH for Netgalley and Simon & Schuster for this advanced copy。Gleanings by Neal Shusterman was a perfect anthology to complete the whole series。Arc of Scythe was an unforgettable series, with its own utopian worldbuilding, Neal Shusterman focused on the dystopian side。 After asked, "where is the humanity?" over and over again in the original series, we finally got an unexpected "way out" of the main conflict。 But, some questions remained unanswered。Glad thing, Neal Shusterman and m Thank you SO MUCH for Netgalley and Simon & Schuster for this advanced copy。Gleanings by Neal Shusterman was a perfect anthology to complete the whole series。Arc of Scythe was an unforgettable series, with its own utopian worldbuilding, Neal Shusterman focused on the dystopian side。 After asked, "where is the humanity?" over and over again in the original series, we finally got an unexpected "way out" of the main conflict。 But, some questions remained unanswered。Glad thing, Neal Shusterman and many co-authors written anthology to answer all of the question for the original series。 It was so nice, since some anthology just "adding" the plot, not "complete" it。After read Gleanings I was back to the Scythedom era。 It was nice and thrilling to be back to that era again。 Also every stories had their own plot twists, so I would never get bored while reading this。 。。。more

I just wrote a very long review and then it deleted itself so I am going to actually fucking kill someone and then write a short review hitting the key points。 I really liked how we started and finish the book with curie。 There is something poetic about that but I hate poetry so I’m not looking into it too much。A death of many colours was a great little criticism of how humans are so fucking dumb and will always ignore logic to keep their silly little beliefs。 Flat earther core。The mortal canvas I just wrote a very long review and then it deleted itself so I am going to actually fucking kill someone and then write a short review hitting the key points。 I really liked how we started and finish the book with curie。 There is something poetic about that but I hate poetry so I’m not looking into it too much。A death of many colours was a great little criticism of how humans are so fucking dumb and will always ignore logic to keep their silly little beliefs。 Flat earther core。The mortal canvas was probably my favourite, like if I had to reread one of the short stories it would probably be that one。 Low-key an extended version of the scene right at the start of scythe where faraday takes Rowan and Citra round the art gallery。 What’s art without death and stuff like that。Anastasias shadow had me screaming, crying, rolling around on the floor WAILING。 Like it was so sad and for what reasonnnnn? Feeling sad just thinking about little benny boy rn which is just greatThe persistence of memory was pretty fucking funny again。 Scythe Dali needs to go back to GCSE english, read ozymandias and really take fucking notes。 Bla bla bla nothing lasts forever, not power and certainly not memory’s。 Especially not in this post-mortal universe where these hoes are shallow and uncaring asf。And finally, a dark curtain rises。 Literally dead, deceased, goneeee。 It actually made me hate the tolls space travel ending a little less which is saying something cos I HATE THAT ENDING。 Justice for Rowan and Citra but on earth please 🙏 Anyways Stan Curie 。。。more

I will be honest I was sooo hesitant to read this because I LOVED the original trilogy。 So much philosophical ideas in it… But these added stories were absolutely fantastic! I don’t have a favorite because all were great and added something to the original trilogy。 Even if it was just an “aah” moment。 Overall, Neal Shusterman did an amazing job of adding to this already fantastic world。
